TimeMatters is a SQL-based legal accounting package. The following describes a basic client and matter code import from a TimeMatters database.

Configure Argos for Client/Matter billing

By default, Argos ships with Billing Code names of "Project" and "Phase". In legal environments, "Client" and "Matter" are generally used instead.

  1. Open Argos Manager and click "Projects"
  2. Click the "Gear" icon below the Projects tier and select "Define billing code structure"
  3. Click the ellipsis (...) next to "Project"
  4. Change the name from "Project" to "Client"

  5. Click "OK"
  6. Click the ellipsis (...) next to"Phase"
  7. Change the name from "Phase" to "Matter"

  8. Click "OK"

Set up connection to TimeMatters

  1. Open Argos Manager and click "Clients"
  2. Click the "Gear" icon below the Clients tier and select "Import..."
  3. Select "Imports billing codes from a variety of sources" and click "Configure..."

  4. Click the ellipsis (...) next to "Connection String" to open the Data Link Properties dialog

  5. Select "Microsoft Ole DB Provider for SQL Server" from the "Provider"tab and click "Next"

  6. Enter name of TimeMatters database server, SQL username and password, and TimeMatters database
  7. Click "Test Connection" to confirm settings
  8. Click "OK"

Import Client codes

  1. Select "Clients" tab and click "Use SQL statement" radio button
  2. Click "Edit SQL" button
  3. Enter the following query (may vary based on your specific needs)

TimeMatters Client numbers are often incompletely filled out, or have multiple numbers assigned to single Client names. If using tiered billing, we recommend using the Client name as the number.

  4. Select Client from Number dropdown
  5. Select Client2 from Name dropdown
  6. Leave other options unchecked
  7. Click "Preview" to verify data is correct

Import Matter codes

  1. Select "Clients" tab and click "Use SQL statement" radio button

  3. Enter the following query (may vary based on your specific needs)

  4. Select mat_no from Number dropdown
  5. Select mat_ref from Name dropdown
  6. Select client from Project number dropdown
  7. Leave other options unchecked
